Antique Burnett's Cocoaine Green Tint Glass Bottle circa 1800's

Sorry, this item has sold.

This is an antique Burnett's Cocoaine glass bottle circa 1800's
The glass has a tint of green with slight bubbling in the glass which occurred in the bottle making process- adding amazing character in my opinion!

It is embossed Burnett's Cocoaine across the front
One side reads Burnett the other side reads Boston

There are no chips or cracks and it is clean.
It is measures 7" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2"

When Joseph Burnett of Southborough, Massachusetts, named his “Cocoaine” in 1856, he may have intended to play off the public’s attraction to the many cocaine-laced patent medicines being sold to treat other ailments. Burnett, however, stands out as one of the few proprietors to have been a fully qualified pharmacist, having graduated from the Worcester College of Pharmacy. Burnett first went to work for Theodore Metcalf, a Boston dealer of drugs and toilet articles. In 1847, the young pharmacist opened his own apothecary in Boston. Ten years later, Burnett partnered with William G. Edmonds, and the business became Joseph Burnett & Co.

Among the many claims was a promise to restore lost hair or prevent it from falling out.
“The Inventors of Burnett’s Cocoaine,” testimonials claimed, relied on “pharmaceutical science” to produce “the most desirable hair preparation ever offered to the public.”
Through “careful research and reiterated experiment,” the makers discovered that coconut oil, with other “scientifically selected” ingredients, created the ideal compound to stimulate “healthy and vigorous hair growth.”

Why are shipping costs so high?

The shipping cost is determined by the postal service which is described below Due to the various sizes and weights of the items in my shop I unfortunately cannot offer free shipping
I utilize the USPS for shipping all packages and have found them to be the most economical and reliable

USPS has discontinued Regional Rate Box prices. This means that this mail class is no longer available
USPS uses Cubic Pricing rates which are determined by package dimensions and distance traveled instead of weight
