A consolidation of the three core books of Confucianism that are connected directly to the man - Analects, The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean. James Legge was a 19th Century Scottish missionary to China, best known for prolifically publishing many of the first and earliest translations of classical Chinese texts into English - notably Confucius, whom Legge also wrote a biography on.
This edition is beautifully illustrated by Jeanyee Wong, a master calligrapher and prolific illustrator. Peter Pauper Press, which still exists today as a gift book publisher, was renowned from the 1930s through the 1950s for these high-quality decorative illustrated editions of classic works. Book is complete with original sleeve box - box exhibits some slight soil , but solid and appealing, and the book is virtually pristine. with a slight tear along the front binding which can be seen in pictures
