Never heard of flower frogs? Well, maybe you’ve seen them but did not know what they were. Flower frogs date back to 14th century Japan as a means of assisting florists with flower arranging.
They come in a variety of forms, including glass, ceramic and metal. Most are used inside of vases to hold the flowers in place. Some are not used in vases but come with their own containers to hold the water and, even more interestingly, some are beautiful ceramic figurines with holes to hold flowers as an art form.
It seems that no one knows the origin of the term “frog,” though most agree it must have become a slang term for the fact that they sit in water, like a frog. Flower frogs became widely popular in the US during the 1920s and ’30s. In the mid-1950s, however, a water-absorbent foam, called “Oasis,” was invented, driving the flower frogs to near extinction. Still, many people enjoy collecting them and displaying them for their own beauty or re-purposing them for other uses.

L. E. Smith made this in 3 sizes . Called the Fern bowl with Frog usually, and noted with the Greek Key motif. Some of these also had a bird motif on the bowl, some have a plain front.
It is 'oval/egg' shaped -comes in two pieces and stands on three feet

What we identify as vaseline glass was produced from the mid-1800s through the beginning of World War II, but its peak of popularity was from the 1880s through the 1920s. Large companies like Fenton Glass and Mosser Glass made these wares, along with some other smaller shops.

The most typical color of uranium glass is pale yellowish-green, which in the 1920s led to the nickname vaseline glass based on a perceived resemblance to the appearance of petroleum jelly as formulated and commercially sold at that time.

Like all types of colored glass, minerals are added to the molten mixture during production to achieve the color. The normal color of uranium glass ranges from yellow to green depending on the oxidation state and concentration of the metal ions
