Antique 'Gone With The Wind' Victorian Hand Painted Cranberry Cherub Lamp Globe

Sorry, this item has sold.

This antique victorian hand painted 'Gone with the Wind' lamp globe is stunning with four cherub faces around the globe and it is hand painted in a beautiful cranberry color.

There are no chips or cracks - slight rubbing of paint as expected with age.
It measures 4 1/2" tall x 2 3/4" openings ( top and bottom) and a 16 1/4" diameter.

This would be a beautiful addition to a shabby chic, victorian style home.
A great replacement piece too.

The famous “Gone With the Wind” lamps are actually hurricane or chamber lamps. They were produced by several glass companies and circulated during the mid-1800s to the early 1900s. Surprisingly, however, the lamps were renamed thus, “Gone With The Wind,” when they were used on the set of the movie in 1939 with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh.

They gained such popularity at that time, and values started increasing for those vintage lamps. Hence, the fascination of the movie still brings to mind the beautiful settings and gorgeous lamps used.

Gone with the Wind lamps have a double shade structure, with one lampshade on top of the other. The top shade of a Gone with the Wind lamp will usually be round and must match the shade on the bottom. Gone with the Wind lampshades can have painted details, such as ivy or flowers, but can also be plain. Gone with the Wind lamps were made in all sorts of colors.

Today, we look for beautiful lamps in mint condition with gorgeous hand-painted globes portraying flowers or flowing ivy plants. However, there are some lamps with plain or satin globes with no painting on them, and they are still very sought-after items.

Values for Gone with the Wind lamps depend on color, condition, and rarity. Red Gone with the Wind lamps are frequently more desirable that Gone with the Wind lamps in other colors. Original finishes and burning components are also very important in determining how much a Gone with the Wind lamp is worth. A Gone with the Wind lamp in good condition, with all original parts, can be worth several hundred dollars.

It is sad to think how many of these beautiful lamps were destroyed in the thousands of homes and plantations in the South, burned to the ground during the Civil War.
