Antique Silver Deputy Sheriff's Badge-Cheyenne
This is authentic Vintage 1900's Deputy Sheriffs Badge from Cheyenne with a small but beautiful carved flower type flourish and a great western look and feel.
It is in your standard 'officer badge' shield shape measuring 2 1/4" x 2"
The original pin back is intact and functional
It is made of possibly silver or nickel plated silver- I chose not to clean and polish to maintain it's amazing patina.
Many of the first police badges were the coat of arms worn by knights.
These coats of arms identified the knight and his allegiance to justice, chivalry and his royal leaders.
Most departments have a badge that is a variation of a shield. Many represent the history of the badge and feature a seal or name of the city or town which they are serving.
The officers badge is typically worn over the left chest pocket for two reasons- first to be worn over the heart to ever remind them of their pledge to protect and serve and second the left arm was the arm that often held the coat of arms shield of knights- protecting their heart and leaving the dominant hand to fight with a weapon.
