Vintage Hand-Made Yo-Yo Quilt circa 1920-1940's
This beautiful vibrant multicolored YoYo quilt was handcut, gathered, hand stitched/hand knotted together with a variety of colorful cotton fabrics,cotton/polyester thread and hand tied to a pink backing and blue square boarder.
A lot of time and love went into constructing this one-of-a-kind vintage style quilt.
There are no stains ,rips or tears.
It measures approximately 84" x 79" and would be beautiful displayed on a wall or across bed.
The Yo-Yo quilt was a popular style of quilt making in America from the 1920-40s. Yo-Yos, or tiny circles of fabric, were gathered up at the edges and sewn together to create a three-dimensional effect. Yo-Yo quilts were popular because women could carry the little circles of fabric with them and make Yo-Yos whenever they had a free moment.
But how did yo-yos get that name in North America, and why were yo-yo quilts so popular during the Depression Era? Of course, they are a good way to use up small bits of fabric, which would have appealed to thrifty quilters who needed to make do with what they had.
An interesting theory relating to their name has to do with the round wooden toy with a string wrapped around the center axis called a yo-yo that also enjoyed great popularity during the same time period
