Antique Corona Manual Folding Typewriter No. 3 patent July, 10, 1917
This antique typewriter by the Corona Typewriter Company is known as the Corona 3, but is sometimes also referred to as the Model 3 or No. 3.
The patent dates are listed on the back - the last being July 10, 1917
This is a small folding typewriter - there are hinges on each side so the carriage can be lifted and folded forward over the keyboard (see in photos). This rare typewriter folds to an extremely portable size of just 10.5 x 8.5 x 4.25 inches.
It's a great little size for display and such a vintage classic!!
As it sits, this typewriter is a lovely piece of typewriter history that would look great on display, but is not currently functioning to it's full capability
All the keys move but are a little stiff and there is a little rust in on the back of the slide bar. I have not tried to clean this typewriter - it is in "as found" condition.
A local typewriter shop could probably get this in beautiful working condition with ease, but I am selling it as is since it is not my area of expertise.
The first laptop, it is the Corona 3 Portable Typewriter invented in 1912. Ernest Hemingway loved his, so did Teddy Roosevelt. This is the most popular typewriter ever made--selling over 700,000! Hadley Richardson gave her fiancé, Ernest Hemingway, a Corona #3 for his 22nd birthday on July 21, 1921. He took it with him when he sailed to France in December of 1921 and wrote the Nick Adams stories on it. Hemingway said that the only psychiatrist he had ever submitted to was his "Corona 3.
