Henderson Stoneware Foot warmer, 'Porcelain Pig' Dorchester Pottery Co, Dorchester, Mass

Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a beautiful antique stoneware Henderson Foot Warmer also known as a "Piggy" or "China Pig" by the Dorchester Pottery Co , Mass.
It is in great vintage condition. The chains are often lost or broken but this one still has the original chain attached. I did 'test' it and filled it with water- Typically with these the rubber gaskets get a little dry and need replacing but this one had no leaks!! So it's still functional too after all these years!!
There are no chips or cracks and it measures 11" tall x 6 1/4" x 6" with a 4 3/4" base

Great rustic, country addition to bath or bed room or gift for a stoneware collector

George Henderson founded Dorchester Pottery in Dorchester, Mass., in 1895. The pottery made jugs, jars, flower pots, butter pots, specialty items and, later, dinnerware.
Henderson was granted a patent for “a new and useful improvement in taps or nipples for earthenware containers” in 1912. He designed a metal screw-off tap that was used in place of a rubber stopper.
The Henderson foot warmer became one of Dorchester Pottery’s most popular products.
Foot warmers were widely used in the days before central heating. These were known as 'china pigs' or 'piggy' and were filled with hot water and placed under bedding for overnight warmth. The pottery made foot warmers until 1939. Dorchester Pottery continued to make its patented 'Henderson Foot Warmer' at least until 1920. The pottery went out of business in 1979.

The shipping cost is determined by the postal service which is described below Due to the various sizes and weights of the items in my shop I unfortunately cannot offer free shipping

USPS has discontinued Regional Rate Box prices. This means that this mail class is no longer available
USPS uses Cubic Pricing rates which are determined by package dimensions and distance traveled instead of weight
