This is a stunning iridescent ruby/cranberry carnival glass creamer/pitcher.
It commands attention with it's brilliant shimmering iridescent colors of green, yellow, pink and purple on a cranberry background.
The pattern is a basketweave with floral squares, and a modest ruffled edging adorns the top.
Although delicate to the eye it is sturdy and large in size measuring 3 1/2" tall x 5 3/4" diameter with no chips or cracks.
A lovely piece for use or display and amazing when catching the light!
The Westmoreland Glass Company grew out of the Specialty Glass Company of East Liverpool, Ohio, which, in 1889, relocated to Grapeville, Pennsylvania, to take advantage of the area’s abundant supply of natural gas. By 1890, production of pitchers, goblets, tumblers, and glass novelty items was underway, overseen by two brothers named George and Charles West.
Operation of the factory ran smoothly for nearly 30 years. During this period, Westmoreland produced virtually every type of glassware, from inexpensive pressed glass to pricier cut glass
The Westmoreland Glass Company is known for its production of high-quality milk glass, but also is known for its high-quality decorated glass. From the 1920s to the 1950s it was estimated that 90 percent of the production was milk glass. Westmoreland produced carnival glass beginning in 1908 and reissued novelties and pattern glass in carnival treatments in the 1970s until the plant closed in 1984. Westmoreland also produced high quality hand-decorated and cut glass
Thanks to their high level of craftsmanship, Westmoreland milk glass pieces were considered some of the finest examples of the material in the country. This reputation for quality is one reason the factory was not forced to close its doors during the Great Depression, a fate that befell so many of Westmoreland’s competitors.
