This is a vintage 48 star American/United States flag.
The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of the United States of America, and the 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain, and became the first states in the U.S.
In 1912, two stars were added, representing Arizona and New Mexico, bringing the total number of stars to 48, arranged in 6 rows of 8 stars each. There were thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies.
The 48-star flag was in effect for 47 years until the 49-star version became official on July 4, 1959.
It is WWII era, a time of great pride in the United States so although worn it remains a symbol of freedom for many. It's colors never ran.
This flag shows signs of use and age- there is some discoloration to the cloth and tears/rips on the bottom two corners as seen in pictures.
It measures 5 ft x 3 ft
